The term 'stoma, plant stomata' as it applies to the area of carbon dioxide can be defined as ' A minute pore in the epidermis of plant leaves or stems. Stoma, which are bordered by guard cells that regulate the size of the opening, function in gas exchange between the plant and the external environment. The stomatal apparatus or stomate consists of the stoma plus guard cells'.
